Design Component of MSME Innovative Scheme

Description

The Design scheme facilitates MSMEs in obtaining comprehensive design advice, enabling them to achieve their design-related objectives. Experienced designers will offer specialized guidance for new product development and enhancing the existing product portfolio. IIT Kanpur is the implementation partner for managing the Design Component of the MSME Innovative Scheme in Partnership with the Ministry of MSME.

Scheme Objective

The objective of this component is to create a common platform for the Indian manufacturing sector and Design fraternity, providing expert advice and cost-effective solutions for real-time design challenges in new and existing product development.

Eligibility

MSME

  • Registered micro, small, or medium enterprises as per MSME definition, with valid UAM/Udyam Registration.
  • Three-year-old company registration is mandatory for the Design Scheme application.
  • Manufacturing MSMEs should preferably show profitability in at least one year out of the last three financial years.

Student/Individual

  • All students from AICTE (accrediting all postgraduate and graduate programs, under specific categories) /UGC (University Grant Commission) accredited institutions can avail of this sub-component, enabling their active involvement in helping MSMEs enhance their Design capabilities.
  • Student participation can occur through two pathways: MSMEs approaching students or students offering their services to MSMEs.
  • To initiate a student design project, MSMEs need to submit proposals through the scheme's portal (https://innovative.msme.gov.in) to the Implementation Agency under the Design Scheme.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE UNDER DESIGN COMPONENT

The MSMEs that are selected are given grants up to 40 Lakhs by the GOI and Ministry of micro small and medium enterprises. Contribution from the side of the Government of India (GOI) will be 75% for micro-enterprises, 60% for small and medium enterprises for projects that range between Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs. 40 lakhs.

The GOI funding grant is reimbursed in 3 stages.

  • Stage 1 – Strategy & Concept- 40%.
  • Stage 2 – Detail Design - 30%
  • Stage 3 – Successful Implementation and completion report - 30%
